Istanbul Metro Expansion Project

Two further EPBMs have been delivered to the Istanbul Metro expansion project. The 6.56m-diameter machines will bore the 14.2km Dudullu-Bostancı stretch runs north to south across the city and involves 13 stations.
The TBMs have mixed face cutterheads with an opening ratio of 35 per cent to bore Istanbul’s mixed rock and soil formations. The tunnel will be lined with concrete trapezoidal segments in a 5+key arrangement.
About EUR 1.4bn will be invested and it will kick off in early 2017 and finish in mid-2019. It will increase passenger capacity, ease traffic pressure and bring local people with comfort.
Self drilling anchor bolt, as an effective supporting method, can be used when TBM is under construction. It combines drilling, grouting and anchoring together, bonds itself to surrounding soil and rock through slurry, which can enhance tunnel’s stability and prevent deformation and collapse.
